CIPE’s Chinese as a Second Language Education and Research Center is dedicated to the teaching of Chinese language and culture to foreign and Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan students. The Center has a good study environment, with language labs, computer labs and multimedia classrooms alongside standard classrooms. The advanced facilities offer a rich and varied range of course content, creating an ideal environment in which to study Chinese language and culture. All teachers have advanced Teaching Chinese as a Second Language Certification issued by the Department of Education and many years of teaching experience. They provide teaching tailored to the students needs, meeting all different requirements with excellent results and winning the praise of students. Our Chinese classes all take place in small groups of less than 15 students. Students have many opportunities to actively participate in classes. The good language environment means clear progress and outstanding results. Courses are varied and able to ensure that every type of student reaches their objective. Besides the compulsory courses there are a range of optional classes, including calligraphy and martial arts which students can choose according to their interests. After the courses are finished qualified students will receive the appropriate certificate. Courses Long-term Students Long-term students study for one semester or more. There are two eighteen-week semesters a year, running from the 10th of September to the 10th of January, and from the 10th of March to the 10th of July. We offer compulsory and optional classes at six levels, corresponding to the elementary, intermediate and advanced levels of the National Chinese Level Classifications. Compulsory classes include Comprehensive Chinese, Oral Chinese, Listening and Reading. Optional classes include Chinese Characters, Phonetics, Sports Chinese, HSK Training, Calligraphy and Martial Arts. Short-Term Students Short-term students study for less than one semester. The length of study is flexible, and can be as short as one or two weeks or as long as two or three months. Longer-term students who study for less than 20 hours a week are also considered short-term students. Short-term students can join current classes, or groups of three and four can arrange their own courses commencing at the start of every month. Short-term students can flexibly arrange their study time for either weekdays or weekends. Courses can also be chosen flexibly – students can opt to study everyday Chinese, tourist Chinese, business Chinese or for the HSK. CIPE is equipped to meet any needs. One to One One to one students take classes individually. They can agree on class time and content with their teacher, emphasizing oral Chinese, phonetics or other courses. One to one students have more opportunities to practice and the teacher is able to offer targeted tutoring according to the student’s needs. |
